Taste of the Teign is a new Estuary and Food Festival celebrating the provenance and local flavours of the magnificent Teign River Estuary. There will be plenty to eat, see and enjoy during the festival. Throughout the week participating local restaurants and cafes are featuring special menus based on foods available from the Teign estuary and its environs. There will also be demonstrations by the producers that you are encouraged to participate in. These will include everything from being shown how to shell and dress crab, to pressing your own apples to make make juice or cider.
Lori Reich, who helped set up the event and who co-owns award winning Shute Fruit and Produce with her husband, said: “Taste of the Teign is a wonderful opportunity to put the Teign Estuary and its incredible array for local foods and delights firmly on the map. You can enjoy a meal at one of our fabulous local restaurants, which are showcasing the fine produce that can be found in and around the Teign Estuary, or you can visit our Farmer’s market in Teignmouth on the final Saturday, which is twice its normal size and will feature kitchen cart demos.
Taste of the Teign is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate and enjoy the abundance of wonderful things to eat and drink, literally on the doorstep. I have long championed the importance of eating good, genuine, seasonal and local foods. I love to encourage people to explore and to experience new flavours direct at the source and to see and appreciate where and how things are made or raised. You can do all of this here at The Taste of the Teign festival: so come along to taste, learn, share and enjoy.” Says Michael Caines, Devon’s own double Michelin starred chef.
